There has been a lot of controversy over the casting of the new Bridgerton series on Netflix. The series, which centers around an aristocratic family in the 19th century, is based on a series of bestselling novels written by Julia Quinn. The books were very popular with readers, but some criticized that the series was too WHITE and not representative enough of Victorian multiculturalism. Netflix responded by saying they were looking to create an "inclusive version" of the era, but the criticism continued. The debate came to a head when actor Regé-Jean Page, who plays the lead role of Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, announced he would not be returning for the second season. Fans were devastated and some even boycotted the show due to the lack of casting diversity. Netflix responded by saying they would try to do better in the future, but it seems the damage has already been done. We'll see what comes next for this controversy.(*)
