When Daryl is alone, he can't afford to make too much noise and draw attention to himself. Third, it's a weapon he's intimately familiar with. Daryl is a sharpshooter, and using a crossbow comes naturally to him. He can reload quickly and take down multiple targets in quick succession. In a world where every second counts, Daryl's expertise with a crossbow gives him a significant advantage over his enemies.
