Rapture is a giant submarine city created by Andrew Ryan to escape the postwar political, social and religious problems of the world. Ryan believes that scientific achievements around the world are restricted by a "petty morality", so he made sure that the inhabitants of Rapture could explore ways previously deemed too immoral or controversial. Much progress has been made in the field of robotics.
