Mazinger Z was originally designed to be controlled by a human pilot, but Dr. Kabuto's grandson, Koji Kabuto, later modified the robot so that it could be controlled remotely. Mazinger Z proved to be an invaluable asset in the fight against Grendizer, and played a key role in the villain's eventual defeat.
