History

In the year 2000, a gigantic explosion occurs in Antarctica, causing a cataclysm (tidal wave, melting polar ice caps) that devastates much of the planet. But mysterious creatures named Angels make their appearance, and try to destroy Tokyo-3, the new capital-fortress of Japan built after the Second Impact. To combat them, the secret organization NERV has developed an ultimate weapon, the "Evangelion" or "EVA", an anthropoid giant piloted as a simple mechanic, but in fact a very mysterious creature.
