This led to Kratos being imprisoned by Zeus. After breaking free, Kratos swore revenge on Zeus. To do this, he needed to find Pandora's Box, which was guarded by Ares. Kratos eventually kills Ares and opens the box, but instead of finding power, he only finds death. Kratos was then betrayed by Zeus and thrown into the Underworld.

Atreus is Kratos' son in the God of War series. He was born after Kratos killed his wife and children. Atreus was named after his mother's Norse husband, who died before Atreus was born. Kratos imprisoned Atreus in order to protect him from the gods, but he eventually relented and allowed him to train as a warrior. Atreus accompanies Kratos on his quest for revenge against Zeus. He is also trained by his father in the ways of war.
